Mathematics is much more than just the act of getting the correct answer. Unfortunately, that is what many students today are content doing. My goal as a tutor is to share my love of mathematics with my students. I want them to be able to interact with the subject matter and find meaning in it. I teach them to be able to communicate the process they used to find the answer and what they learned in that process. It is that communication which helps to solidify the students' understanding. As they learn to communicate, their confidence builds and leads to even greater levels of success. It is a positive cycle where everyone wins.What has helped me to connect best with my students is demonstrating an interest in them as individuals and where they are in their educational journey. I get to know them and customize my instruction based on their specific learning styles. I use several mathematical ideas in each lesson. The reason for this is that while students have one preferred method of learning, if they learn another way to solve a problem, they are more likely to be able to apply what they have learned in solving new problems.
