Kelsey D.
Private tutor in Columbus, OH
Education
In 2015, I received my B.A. in Literature from Bard College in New York. My studies emphasized 19th and 20th century literature by women and Chinese literature and film. At Bard, I was awarded the Bill Sanders Memorial Prize for elegant, insightful, and appreciative writing in English Literature. I took courses in composition and pedagogy, writing workshops in poetry and fiction, and developed strong research skills when I completed an analytical paper of 60 pages on the life and work of Joanne Kyger. I also took three years of classes in Chinese language in addition to courses on Chinese lit/film, Chinese history and on cultural exchange between Japan/China and America.
Experience
I currently tutor students in two subjects: Mandarin Chinese language and English writing. (I work with students on everything from five paragraph essays to college admissions papers to essays on literature and the humanities in general.) While at Bard, I gained three years of experience tutoring college level writing. I also have four years of experience working on writing with ESL students, including children, teenagers, and adults.

Hobbies
In addition to tutoring, I work at a yoga studio and a restaurant. In my free time, I try to stay involved in the local arts community as I work on my own creative projects. I am trying to learn Spanish, working on a small Chinese translation project, and reading as much poetry and fiction as I can get my hands on.
