Experience
I worked as a paraprofessional at Propel East Charter School (Turtle Creek, PA) from 2010-13 with grades 5-8. I worked with students in English, Social Studies, and Math and gained valuable experience in both content knowledge of those subjects and interacting with students at that age. During the 2013-14 school year, I enrolled at Otterbein University and began taking classes such as Educational Psychology which helped me gain a better understanding of how students learn and what some of the best practices are. As part of Ed Psych, I tutored an 8th grade student in Math (Algebra 1) for three months. Outside of Otterbein, I was a long-term sub at The Wellington School and taught U.S. History to 10th grade students from January to April. I had never worked with high school students, so this experience was very beneficial as I enjoyed teaching them far more than I originally thought. I'm interested in tutoring because I love helping students succeed in a subject they typically struggle in. Watching the light bulb click on for them is a great feeling to watch. I also want to continue to improve my teaching strategies along with seeing how students learn best so that when I eventually become a teacher, I'm as prepared as possible.
