Education

I am a student at The Ohio State University studying Integrated Language Arts/Secondary English Education (7th-12th Grades). My GPA in all major courses is ~3.9 (on a four point scale).

Experience

As a future Language Arts Educator, I have had copious opportunities to tutor and teach students of all backgrounds. The summer of 2012 I taught reading and developed up my own curriculum to students of Dayton, OH through the Children's Defense Fund's literacy program named "Freedom Schools". Also, I observed an English classroom for +120 hours at Hilliard Darby High School and +50 hours at Dominion Middle School aiming to develop my teaching practices further. At Ohio State I have taken courses relating to American fiction, Shakespeare, Young Adult fiction and non-fiction, multiple Philosophy courses, writing courses, History and Psychology courses, and many other courses. I also am great with teaching organization tips, study habits, ADD/ADHD students, and students with other disabilities I view tutoring as a fantastic bridge that connects the two school years and prevents students from losing much of what they learned the year before. I also see a summer filled with a tutor as a time for teachers to develop personal, lasting relationships with students that positively affect the student's lives. I want to keep students educated in a time period where education does not generally occur as well as inspiring those students, through exemplifying my passion in the tutoring sessions, to always thirst for knowledge.

Hobbies

I am an outgoing and social person with an emphasis on relationship building in my life. I live my life by attempting to positively affect others' lives in any way I can. This can be something as simple as picking a friend up from school or being there for them when something unforeseen occurs. This personal philosophy is one of the most prominent reasons I would like to go into the teaching profession. I also enjoy sports. I played hockey and lacrosse throughout my life. I do not believe that sports should be a number one focus, but I do think that sports do teach important lessons (and the physical activity is great as well). I also love reading. I try to read as much as possible because it is the most important source of knowledge. I will read anything. I love reading non-fiction about historical events, Faulkner or Hemingway novel, or the Harry Potter series. I care deeply about the students I have taught, am teaching, and will teach in the future. Their success is everything to me. I tried to exemplify this personal quality in this section the best I could but it was difficult with the limited space. I hope that this attribute shines through here enough to give me the opportunity to illustrate how I will do everything in my power to help your student succeed. Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon!
