I have not been a tutor for pay before, however I have spent a significant amount of time helping classmates with specific problems and more general concepts. As such, I have a good amount of experience with conveying complex ideas in a way that makes them simple to understand and easily built/expanded upon. My motivation for being a tutor comes from a number of places. First and foremost - I want to help younger students maximize their learning potential through individualized assistance and guidance. This can be done through lesson plans that cater to their needs as a student, the requirements of their curriculum, and through their individual interests. Finding a niche of interest within a topic is really helpful to understanding larger concepts in a way that truly sticks, and I really enjoy seeing someone get a grasp on something that they grappled with and worked hard on. Another motivation for tutoring is to share my passion for mathematics and history with younger students, to help them understand the way that the relationships and interactions which make up our world (through social systems in history and through numbers in mathematics). Ultimately, my desire to tutor students comes from a desire to help others maximize their potential, reduce stress, and improve their self-confidence.

Hobbies

Outside of school, my passions and interests lay in experiencing all that I can. I have spent roughly a full year of my life, in eight to ten week increments, canoe tripping in the Boreal forest of the Hudson Bay lowlands in Northern Ontario. These trips have given me a stronger sense of self-reliance, independence, and perseverance - all things that have helped me immensely in my educational career. At home, I'm involved in community activism with a number of different groups here in Columbus, and have found those pursuits to be some of the most inwardly rewarding things I have done in my life. In addition to these things, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and loved ones.
