Experience
I’m excited to be your tutor! I want to tell you a little bit about myself before we begin working together. I’m originally from Columbus, OH. I’m a Doctoral Teaching Fellow at Ball State University. Prior to beginning my fellowship, I was a teacher and a counselor for nine years at a public high school that I helped design in the South Bronx. Although I started out as a Spanish teacher, I have taught many subjects and worked as a College and Career Counselor, in addition to wearing several other hats. Currently, I'm pursuing a PhD in Educational Studies. My goal is to research and develop a model of teaching that I created as a teacher and counselor in the South Bronx. I believe that technology can help level the playing field by improving learning outcomes for disadvantaged and struggling students. Eventually, I hope to create a blended school and national training center for blended learning that will serve as a laboratory for innovation and professional development for teachers and researchers, while also providing equitable education that prepares at-risk students to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. My education background is quite varied. I did my undergrad at Cornell University, where I majored in Spanish Literature and minored in Latin American Studies. My Master's is in Spanish Education from The City University of New York at Lehman College. I have a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA. I also have studied ecology, biology, and many interdisciplinary topics at colleges and universities around the world. You could say that I’m a professional student.
